Sleeping Prince Dies: Saudi Royal Passes After 20 Years in Coma
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, often referred to as the "Sleeping Prince," has sadly passed away at the age of 36. He had been in a coma for two decades following a devastating car accident in London.
The accident, which occurred when he was just 15 years old and studying as a military cadet, resulted in severe brain injuries and internal bleeding. Despite receiving immediate and extensive medical attention, he never fully regained consciousness.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing deep sorrow and faith in Allah's will. The Prince had been hospitalised at King Abdulaziz Medical City and relied on a ventilator for life support until his passing.
Prince Khaled remained a devoted father throughout the past two decades, steadfastly refusing to withdraw life support. He frequently visited his son's bedside, often accompanied by his other sons, Saud and Mohammed, and requested prayers for Al-Waleed's recovery.
While there were fleeting moments of hope, with minor physical responses suggesting potential improvement, Prince Al-Waleed ultimately remained in a critical condition. His hospital room was a place of constant visitation, filled with individuals offering prayers and support.
Funeral prayers for the Prince will be held on Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. The announcement of his passing on X (formerly Twitter) has prompted an outpouring of condolences and messages of sympathy.
